Technology is advancing every moment creating smarter devices. Every new device is trying to make our activities easier and comfortable. Life will be awesome while using such smarter devices. But do you ever tried to make a smart device? You may know about a lot of DIY projects. But here “smart extension box” DIY project make it easy to control your home appliances/devices through a remote.
Just try to make smart extension box by which you can control devices in your home such as fan, light, fridge, AC… Main feature of the project is its low cost and compactness. With this smart extension box we are able to switch on and off remotely any device plugged into it. Here in this prototype we are showing an extension box which is able to control about 4 devices. But we can easily customize it to control more devices. RF remote control is used to control the extension box. As RF remote is used, range will be about 30 meters and line of sight communication is also not necessary.
This circuit is easy to install and easy to use. With this you are able to control every device in your home. Main components required are ASK transmitter module, HT12D Decoder IC, HT12E Encoder IC, 12V 5A SPDT Relay and some basic electronics components.
Controlling Switches: A Push switch and DIP switch are used to control the extension box.
HT12E Encoder IC: 212 series HT12E IC is for encoding data before wireless communication. It converts the parallel input to serial out before transmission through RF transmitter module.
RF Tx Module: For the transmission of data we are using a 434 MHz ASK Transmitter module. Data rate of this module is about 8kbps.
Battery: Remote needs less power than the receiver section. So a 3V button cell is used to power the remote.
RF Rx Module: ASK RF transmitter module in the receiver section will take the data input from antenna and provide it to the Decoder IC.
HT12D Decoder IC: Serial data’s input will get converted to parallel data by the 212 series HT12D Decoder IC.
ULN2803 Driver: ULN2803 is used as a relay driver in this circuit to drive the relays in the extension box.
Relays: We are using four relays in this project to switch on the plug point.
